Chisato Matsumoto makes use of her specialized skills in dyeing and weaving to create her work. She will exhibit a piece expressing the concept of the “bud.” For Roppongi Art Night, she will engage in a public art performance, reworking this existing piece to create an entirely different scene. Feel the vitality of the budding work as it grows.

ARTISTS

Chisato Matsumoto

Born in Hiroshima in 1994. Currently a student in the Textiles Course of the Department of Design and Applied Arts, Faculty of Arts, Hiroshima City University. Using traditional dyeing techniques, she makes soft sculptures and develops space sculptures. Among her recent exhibitions are “To a New World” (Hiroshima Arts Center/ Hiroshima, 2017) and “Theme Work: Boundary Exhibition (Gojinsha Hitomachi Plaza/ Hiroshima, 2017). Main prizes awarded: Ai Kowada Prize at the Next Generation Arts Crafts Exhibition (Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art Annex/ Kyoto, 2016). Winner of the Award of Excellence at the 5th New Kenbiten (Annual competition of art in Hiroshima Prefecture) (Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum, Hiroshima, 2017).
