ARTISTS

Yoshinari Nishio

Nishio was born in 1982 in Nara Prefecture, where he lives today. He obtained a doctorate from Tokyo University of the Arts. Among other things, he has lived and worked in Nairobi, Kenya on a grant from Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs, and is currently an associate professor at Nara Prefectural University’s Faculty of Regional Promotion. Both in Japan and abroad, he develops projects that examine the relationship between how we dress and how we communicate. In his project for Roppongi Art Night 2014 – which tied into the theme, “Move Your Body!” – he found new uses for second-hand clothes in three large-scale works, which were installed in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown, and the National Art Center, Tokyo.
