In commemoration of the installation of away from painting [Mountain of Stone], we present a talk with the artist Kazuhiro Ishiyama. We welcome as guest speaker the architect Shingo Masuda, while Naoko Aono will moderate the conversation for this talk event.

ARTISTS

Kazuhiro Ishiyama

Ishiyama is an artist who was born in 1981 in Yamagata Prefecture. In 2008, he received a master’s degree in Intermedia Art from Tokyo University of the Arts. Using photography, he creates two-dimensional works grounded in the history of painting. In recent years, he has exhibited works as part of the exhibition 10 Years of the Shuou Foundation Award for Art Studies Abroad, and Now: 2006–2015 (2019, Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art) and the Japan Pavilion at the Venice Biennale’s International Architecture Exhibition (2016, in collaboration with Shingo Masuda + Katsuhisa Otsubo); notable prizes include the Grand Prix at the Best of the Best TMA Art Awards (2018) and an Honorable Mention at PX3 (2012).

2007–: Co-director of Shingo Masuda + Katsuhisa Otsubo
2019–: Associate Professor at Meiji University

Notable works include Boundary Window (2014), Living Pool (2015), First Roof (2017), and House with City (2018). Notable prizes include the AR Emerging Architecture Award (2014) and the 32nd Yoshioka Award (2015).
