The 2016 Tokyo Midtown Award Art Competition winner Kanata Goto will be creating a “Mirai no Matsuri” (festival of the future) themed sculpture using strings, live in front of audiences. The artist’s conscious and energy, combined with the energy of Roppongi, Art Night, and
the audience, will come together into the art piece.

ARTISTS

Kanata Goto

Born in Tokyo in 1991. Kanata Goto is currently enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Department of Intermedia Art at Tokyo University of the Arts. He uses thread to create work that expresses non-linguistic concepts related to visual and bodily sensations. Goto’s recent exhibitions include “Where Threads Lead” (Frantic Gallery, Tokyo) in 2015, “SICF16 Prizewinners’ Exhibition” (Spiral, Tokyo) in 2016, YIA Art Fair #6 (LFDAC, Brussels) in 2016, and “Street Museum” (Tokyo Midtown) in 2017. He received the grand prize at the Tokyo Midtown Award 2016 Art Competition.
