Suzuki Kiitsu (1796-1858) is regarded as the most talented of the students trained by Sakai Hoitsu, who revived the Rimpa style in Edo. Kiitsu’s style carried on the Rimpa tradition of lavish beauty while adding vivid color contrasts, a rich design sense, and innovation that speaks to us today, and he has been attracting increasing attention in recent years. This exhibition brings together his masterpieces from collections in Japan and overseas on an unprecedented scale, providing a rare opportunity to explore his oeuvre in full.
